Course Overview: Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry is a precalculus course. The material covered will be the equivalent of that presented in most colleges and universities’ Precalculus and/or Trigonometry courses. This is a technology-heavy course as students need to be “graphing calculator proficient” when they enter their first college mathematics course. However, we do not want students to be “calculator dependent.” For this reason, most tests will be one part with a calculator and one part without so that students demonstrate mastery in both scenarios. As graphing calculators are permitted on the PSAT, SAT, and ACT, calculator proficiency also gives our students a distinct advantage in time and accuracy on these tests. At the end of the course, students will have a mini syllabus in their calculators, as well, to carry with them to college.
The text for this course was specifically chosen for its user-friendliness and ease in reading. It is a precalculus text with a graphing approach. One of the strongest features of the text is that it presents multiple ways of solving the example problems. Most problems are worked in two or three different ways to accommodate different styles of learning so that a student may see how the problem is worked step-by-step algebraically, see a graph to reinforce the concept visually, and read the explanation of the solution verbally.
Tutoring Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday 8:05-8:20am, Wednesday 1:15-1:30pm, by appointment to avoid any inconvenience on the student’s part.
Instructor Information:Mrs. Jackie Wetmore
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education (6-12)
Masters of Education in Instructional Technology for the K-12 Classroom
Georgia Teaching Certificate (Mathematics 7-12)
Contact Me:Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. The best way to reach me is through email as I check it several times a day. You may also call me at the school, but please leave a message with the school secretary. DO NOT leave a message on my voicemail as the voicemail system is not always dependable, and I may not get your message.
